祈祷其肉身坐佛像回归中国的活动

阿姆斯特丹，2015年10月20日 – 今天，我们在荷兰国家博物馆（Rijksmuseum）前的博物馆广场（Museumplein）举行活动，庆祝中国佛教圣僧章公六全祖师诞辰并祈祷他的肉身坐像早日回归其远在中国的故里。

章公六全祖师中国北宋（960-1127）年间生于今福建省大田县吴山乡阳春村，并在这里出家。作为一名佛教僧侣，他毕生修身行善，他普济众生，解除当地百姓的疾苦，赢得了人们的爱戴和敬仰。他于37岁时圆寂后，根据宗教和习俗传统，当地乡里在他的肉身之上制作了塑像，并置于以他的法名命名的“普照堂”之中，世代受人供奉敬拜。肉身坐像在历史上经历过多次的修缮，一直保存良好。

1995年12月，章公六全祖师肉身坐像不幸被盗走，长期查寻无果。但是，当地百姓对他的敬仰没有中断。在后来新建的“普照堂”中放置了仿制的塑像，每年在他的传统中的诞辰日都一如既往地举行大规模的庆祝活动。章公六全祖师已成为一种文化图腾和精神信仰，是当地民众生活中不可缺少的一部分。

2015年3月，通过关于匈牙利自然博物馆一个木乃伊展览的图片新闻报道，人们惊奇地发现作为展品之一的佛像就是遗失已经近20年的章公六全祖师肉身坐像。有关这一佛像系被盗中国文物的消息传开后，荷兰收藏家旋即从匈牙利博物馆撤走了佛像。再后我们得知，这尊佛像是在1996年被一位荷兰收藏家在阿姆斯特丹购得并持有至今。据现在这位收藏家称，前一位持有者是在香港购得这尊佛像的。我们知道，香港在过去曾长时间是倒卖和走私中国被盗文物最猖獗的中心。

在过去的半年多时间里，中国官方和民间方面就归还这尊走私到荷兰的章公六全祖师肉身坐像事宜与荷兰收藏家进行了多次的沟通和谈判，但遗憾的是，这一事实明确、中方拥有不可争辩追索权利的交涉时至今日仍然没有取得结果。中国阳春村民众为此心急如焚，热切期盼章公祖师能够早日回到他镇守过千年并已阔别20年的属于他的唯一归宿地——福建阳春村普照堂。

每年中国农历十月初五，是章公祖师的诞辰纪念日，今年的阳历日期是11月16日。由于章公祖师在今年得以重新现身，所以现在在这一日期来临的一个月时间内，中国当地民众将进行各种纪念和庆祝活动。我们认为，章公祖师现在身处荷兰，这里是离他最近的地方，我们因此选择荷兰首都阿姆斯特丹庆祝他的诞辰，这也是这一个月时间内系列活动的一部分。

中方的态度是积极的、友好的、亲善的和合作的，也能够接受收藏家合理的和正当的要求和意见。我们感谢荷兰收藏家近20年来对章公祖师肉身坐像的精心呵护及科学研究工作，对此我们对收藏家和相关研究人员充满敬意。我们真诚希望，荷兰收藏家本着尊重人类道德、宗教信仰和现代文明的精神，认识到他所持有的章公祖师肉身坐像是走私被盗的中国文物和先人遗骸，期间所有的买卖都不能改变赃物属于它的原有主人的法律事实，以真正的良好意愿和诚意以及合理的条件的基础，尽快与中方达成归还协议，让章公祖师回到他所应该属于的地方和人民。

我们感谢所有关心和支持章公祖师肉身佛像回归的所有善良和真诚的朋友们，祈祷章公祖师平安无恙，顺利度过这一次劫难和遭遇，早日回归中国，回归福建阳春村普照堂，回归敬仰他的人民大众之中。（完）

• 1, Can you tell me one more time why you don't name it a protest or demonstration?What is exactly that you are trying to reach with this event.
  

As I wrote you in the veryfirst letter mentioning the event, I said that we don’t take it as demonstration or protest.

Firstly, here we don’t appose anybody in the matter, let alone act against Mr. Overeem personally.

This is a big misunderstanding.

On the contrary, we will also express our gratitude and respects for his kind treatment towards the statue.

And we highly appraise the achievements of the scientific research on the mummy Buddha, which have in fact simply proved the origin and hero of the statue.

Secondly, the statue now is kept in theNetherlands, it’s the nearest placefrom him, so it’s a meaningful event as we celebrate the birthday here even wecan not meet him.

Thirdly, we will also pray for the return of the statue during the event, we would like to show our sincerity and piety of our expectations.

• 2, And -in a perfect world - what would happen next? What is the outcome you're hoping for? That the statue will be back in time for his real birthday in the village?
  

We just can tell you what we would like to reach.

We hope that through further indirect or even direct negotiations between the Chinese side on behalf of the Government,various related Administrations, the villagers and their individual, private counterpart, Mr. Oscar van Overeem could reach a win-win agreement on the return of the statue to China.

We acknowledge the costs that Mr. van Overeem spent on the statue, we understandand could accept the desires which are logical and reasonable.

The traditionalbirthday of Patriarch Zhanggong is on the fifth day of the tenth month according to the Chinese lunar calendar, it’s 16 November in Gregorian calendar this year.

As the day is approaching, the local people are extremely eager toget back the statue.

If it really happens, it would surly be a grand celebration and all the participants bringing about the case,

especially Mr.Oscar van Overeem himself will render a great service to the beneficence and even to the world of Buddhism.

• 3, He wants to get reimbursed, so he wants to sell it back (so it's a transaction). He doesn't want to let me know for how much. Do you have any idea if this is aproblem?
  

Beyond all doubt,everybody should recognize that the statue is an illegally stolen,

illegally smuggled Chinese cultural relic, particularly important, it’s an object containing human remains.

How could a strange people hold the remains belonging to others?

For my personal opinion, we understand and accept the fact of Mr. Oscar van Overeem’s purchasingof the statue, we believe it happened unknowingly.

I think Chinese side should give Mr. Oscar van Overeem certain compensation for the costs and research inclaiming.

I hope the offer of Mr. Oscar van Overeem is not extremely beyond our imagination.

The French unconditional return of Chinese lost cultural relics without any request ever mentioned to Mr. Oscar van Overeem is fact and just serves as a sample,

and it doesn’t mean that the Buddha statue case should be resolved in the same way.

Mr. Oscar van Overeem insists that the Buddha statue should be placed in a “big temple” near Yangchun.

I don’t hope this “big temple” is in a bustling city with millions of permanent residents.

But in China,most of big temples are popular and important attractions of tourists.

But the Puzhao Temple in Yangchun village has been serving as the only residence of Patriarch Zhanggong for almost a thousand years.

Yangchun lies in the middle of farmountains in north-western area of Fujian province, js1.cn/yc  this is a quiet and peaceful small village with less than 2000 inhabitants there.

From the view of geographical conditions, infrastructure situation and development plan, Yangchun even the Datian County to where the village belongs will never become a busy place.

Where is the right one for the best benefit of Patriarch Zhanggong?

A so-called big temple in anotherplace? Or his secluded, undisturbed hometown with beautiful and natural surroundings?

We have found his native, unique, ancient home, why should we force to move him from his ownplace he has acclimatized to for centuries to a new one which is totally strange to him?

I think Mr. Oscar van Overeem is in no position to choose and appoint another place to arrange for Patriarch Zhanggong.

Nobody has the right to change the folk customs and traditions, and the history abruptly!

We and the local people of the village will not accept this rough and incomprehensible request even if Mr. Oscar van Overeem could return the statue unconditionally.

• 6, He want to get access to some information that can help the scientific research on the statue. Is this a problem?
  

For my opinion, everything could run smoothly once the statue case concludes in a win-win arrangement.

China always warmly welcomes, helps and supports foreingn experts and scholars to make archaeological research in China with kind and scientific intention.

I think there is no any problem for Mr. Oscar van Overeem’s conducting in the fields in which he is interested.

• 7, If these requests are carried out he said that the statue could go back "nextweek" and he said the the organisation of the event should talk to administration and ask questions there. What do you think?
  

Since the negotiation is ongoing, both parties can put forward requests and express their intentions, and this should not be regarded as time wasting or non-cooperation.

Unconditional acceptance of the other party’s requests by one party is not a necessity for good faith and cooperation.

So is the way to resolve the matter Chinese acceptance of his all requests unconditionally and totally. And whatdoes the negotiation mean?

据匈牙利《欧洲论坛》报道，欧洲华侨日前在荷兰举行活动，庆祝肉身佛像“章公祖师”诞辰，盼其能早日回归中国。

　　10月20日，在阿姆斯特丹荷兰国家博物馆前博物馆广场上著名标志性景观“I AMSTERDAM"大型字母前面，出现了两幅高近两米的宣传画架，一幅上是章公祖师肉身佛像的完整照片，上面用英文写的文字是“庆祝章公祖师诞辰，他被盗的肉身佛像现收藏在荷兰”，另一幅是章公祖师像局部与上世纪80年代普照堂内佛像照片的对比图，下部是“本堂普照章公六全祖师”逐字的英文释意，上部的英文文字则是“祈祷遗失的中国文物章公祖师肉身坐佛回归中国”。在宣传画架前面的桌子上，摆放着两种印有章公祖身佛像的名信片，供人们免费拿取。宣传画幅吸引了当地民众和游客不时驻足观看和询问。

　　组织这一活动的福建阳春村追讨章公祖师事宜的海外联络人、匈牙利华侨华人社团联合总会秘书长李震介绍说，今年三月章公祖师佛像在匈牙利的一个展览上现身后的半年多以来，中方与荷兰藏家一直在就归还佛像问题上进行交涉和谈判，由于种种原因，至今仍然没有取得实质性进展。今年农历十月初五，即11月16日是章公祖师的诞辰纪念日，阳春村村民对章公祖师回归的愿望更加强烈。为表达我们的期盼心情，强调章公祖师肉身佛像是属于中国的并必须返还的中国文物，我们决定章公祖师诞辰临近之际在藏家所在的阿姆斯特丹举行这样一场宣传活动。”

　　为了对这次活动进行媒体宣传，李震用中英文提前撰写了新闻发布稿，并多次与荷兰当地记者进行沟通和交流，阐述意见和态度。新闻发布稿中写道，“中方的态度是积极的、友好的、亲善的和合作的，也能够接受收藏家合理的和正当的要求和意见。我们也感谢荷兰收藏家近20年来对章公祖师肉身坐像的精心呵护及科学研究工作，我们真诚希望，荷兰收藏家本着尊重人类道德、宗教信仰和现代文明的精神，认识到他所持有的章公祖师肉身坐像是走私被盗的中国文物和先人遗骸，期间所有的买卖都不能改变赃物属于它的原有主人的法律事实，以真正的良好意愿和诚意以及合理的条件的基础，尽快与中方达成归还协议，让章公祖师回到他所应该属于的地方和人民。”

　　针对藏家提出的返还到其他更大的寺庙的要求，李震说，“藏家无权另行决定章公祖师的安置问题，任何人都不能改变历史和一方民众的文化与传统。”这次活动达到了预期的效果。荷兰全国性报纸《格言报》在活动进行当天以两个整版及网站上进行了报道，其中多次引用活动新闻稿及事先采访中所表达的观点。李震表示，章公祖师肉身坐佛回归的谈判仍在进行当中，希望尽快能取得实质进展，让祖师早日重归普照堂。(刘文建)
