Unfortunately, a lot of families in our community and around the country cannot afford to send their kids to school with the supplies they need. “Makes me feel very sad and there’s got to be a way for everyone to be taken care of,” said Vickie Hudgens, owner of Tea with Thee by Victoria. Hudgens says she loves the Madison community, and that’s why she’s brewing up an incentive to help area children. Every person who brings a school supply to her shop will get a free iced tea and dessert. “I have grandchildren in Madison City and Madison County schools. Every year, I know school supplies are a really big issue for the children — for students as well as for the teachers,” said Hudgens. According to Forbes magazine, the average teacher spends $513 of out his or her own pocket for school supplies each year for the classroom. Hudgens hopes the donations can help. “I like to think of the teachers, what they would use, like the copy paper, the Expo pens… big containers of Clorox wipes and Kleenex,” said Hudgens. Tea with Thee by Victoria will accept donations for several more weeks. You can drop them off Tuesday-Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
